FAQs About the Effective Interpreting Webinar

May 6 - 7, 2024

1. Would I receive a certificate at the end of the webinar?

Yes, a certificate of participation/attendance would be provided to participants who attend both days.

2. Does the advertised cost of the webinar cover both days?

Yes. This webinar is one event split into two parts on two days to accommodate participants' work schedules. The cost for the entire webinar, that is both days,  is now TT$140 or US$20 (more than 60% discount on the previous price).  Additionally, if you are paying for 2 or more people each participant would pay TT$105 OR US$15.

3.  Would the webinar be recorded and made available to me if I do not attend on the day?

The webinar will be recorded and replayed at a later time for the benefit of participants who paid but were unable to attend the event.  There would be no live interaction, however, participants will be required to verify their attendance.  The recording will either be replayed at a later date or made available for a limited time (further details will be provided at the webinar). There will be no make-up if you miss the replay of the webinar.  Please contact the webinar host, Yordanna Garcia-Blackman at 374-1714 for more information.

4. Would I be refunded if I do not attend the webinar or only attend one day?

No. To opt out or cancel your attendance in advance of the event and receive a refund (less a 10% cancellation fee), please email your request to signtutor.slts@gmail.com by April 30, 2024.  Refunds will not be processed if you fail to attend the event on either of, or both days.  If you are unable to attend the event,  you can chose to view the recording of the webinar or have your payment credited to another event or service offered by SLTS.   Refunds will not be issued if you fail to view the recording in the stipulated time.

5. Could I register for one day and not the other?

No. This webinar is one event split into two parts on two days to accommodate participants' work schedules. Your payment covers both days and therefore it would be to your advantage to attend both days.

6. Would the webinar be interpreted?

No. This webinar is being presented in English and would not be interpreted as the target audience for this event is primarily working sign language interpreters. The intention is for all interpreters to be fully focused on and involved in the program rather than interpreting the presentation into ASL/TTSL.  Dr. Patrie will meet with Deaf interpreters on a separate date. If you are or know of a Deaf interpreter who would like to meet with Dr. Patrie please email us at signtutor.slts@gmail.com by May 8, 2024.

7. Are there any prerequisites for attending this webinar? Do I need to be an interpreter?

No, you do not need to be an interpreter but this webinar will be more meaningful to working interpreters as it is primarily designed with them in mind. Nevertheless, it is a no-risk, information-sharing event about Dr. Patrie's books on interpreting, training in fingerspelling word recognition and her independent study programme. Anyone with an interest in sign language (ASL/TTSL) or interpreting, such as interpreting students and interpreter trainers/instructors, can attend this webinar.  However, you will not be taught sign language, how to fingerspell, how to become an interpreter or the ethics of interpreting.
